Gandhi Jayanti
A devoted champion of justice,
using his ingenuity in the service of freedom,
a believer in and exemplar of ‘non-violent civil disobedience’,
a driving force for social change and civic achievements.
Defender of the most fundamental human rights,
reasoning as one of his greatest allies,
putting his humanitarian resolve to the test,
convinced he was on the right path.
Spinning cotton at home
proved to be a great success,
and the Great Salt March, a historic milestone,
breaking with established norms.
The Foot March for Truth
shook a super power of his time to its core,
David defeated Goliath, once again,
‘Bapu’, the original champion of what is just and good.
A true guardian of the balance of existence,
in social, political and religious matters,
he always knew how to lend dignity and substance
at different stages in the nation’s development and its consciousness
